An ISUP Concensus on Contemporary Grading
The 3 group Gleason categorization is the traditional categorization of prostate cancer pathology (well diff score 2-4, mod diff score 5-7, poor diff score 8-10) but many emerging predictive models around prognosis now utilize this newer ISUP Grading which results in a 5-category grouping of pathology. This is part of a growing attempt to avoid overtreating men with screen-detected prostate cancer by identifying low risk patients suitable for active surveillance (AS) rather than subjecting them to radical prostatectomy (RP) or radiation therapy.
